Family Involvement
Family Assessment - a new direction
Aspen is offering this unique and important service as an addition to its standard service package. Like a psychological assessment for an individual, a family assessment can enhance treatment effectiveness by:
- identifying strengths and liabilities within the family, highlighting the interaction or dynamics among family members
- increasing awareness of differing perspectives within the family
- pinpointing therapy goals, not only while with Aspen, but also for aftercare and transition
- providing direction for counseling with your home therapist
- strengthening treatment effectiveness through psychoeducational recommendations
- monitoring progress through pre and post measures
Why do a family assessment?
Often a family begins its journey with Aspen looking for guidance and direction in therapy. An assessment allows you to quickly begin to identify areas of focus and to strengthen them perhaps at a faster pace than might otherwise occur. It takes advantage of our involvement with and our knowledge of your child. And, at the same time, you regain credibility with your child as you show an interest in his or her treatment, a willingness to share the burden, and interest in considering new options as a parent.
Aspen uses research- based, ongoing assessments to target family traits and dynamics in order to develop a plan of growth pertinent to the family:
- Family system and structure assessment: helps identify strengths and weaknesses, family dynamics and issues impacting the family
- Personality assessment - uses an empirically-based measure that helps you and your child identify the core motive behind many of your behaviors
- Marital/couple assessment. - provides information on marital factors that may be impacting your child's treatment effectiveness.
- Substance abuse assessment
- Readiness for change assessment.
Assessment includes a battery of 10 measures given to parents and student, scoring, email summary, interpretation session with family therapist (1 to 1 ½ hours), post administration of selected assessments, and report with recommendations About two hours of parent's time is required to complete the assessment. Assessment is as effective for divorced as for married and remarried couples. Cost: $850.
